How do I check for updates? |
AudioManage has a built-in mechanism to check for updates. If you are using version 1.20g or above, simply click on 'Check for AudioManage updates...' in the Help menu of Windows Explorer when browsing the Audio Library.
You can also click on the 'Audio Library Online Help' from the Help menu while browsing the audio library. A help page will appear (this may take a few seconds as the page is downloaded from our site). From this help page, click on the link 'Check for updates' in the 'Pick a task' section. The version number of the copy you have will be displayed, along with a recommendation if you need to update. Just click on the displayed link to download a fresh copy, and run the installer.
Note: You do NOT need to un-install your current version in order to update.

How do I register my copy? |
Registering your copy of AudioManage is very simple: it's a completely automated task, not requiring you to enter complicated passwords and keys if you choose not to.
To register, select 'Audio Library Online Help' from the Help menu while inside the audio library, or open the 'Related Links' folder from the main folder view. In the window that you see next, you will find a link for 'Online Registration' (last link in the 'Other Places' section). Clicking on it will run the Registration wizard. Here, you can enter the Access Code if you already have one (if you have a copy which you recieved with your computer or mp3 player, or some other device, you will find this Access Code printed on a sticker on the CD Cover).
If you don't have an Access Code, click on the 'Purchase an Access Code' link, and you will be taken to the AudioManage website, directly to the page from which you can order a code online. We use Paypal as our primary payment processor, and securely accept all major cards and even Paypal payments.
Once your payment is accepted, you will recieve a mail - normally an instant process unless you pay by eCheck - containing your Access Code. There will be a link in the mail (you will also see the same link on the page that appears after your payment is accepted). Clicking on the link will automatically enter your Access Code in the registration wizard (you don't have to do any copy/paste etc.). Simple click on the 'Activate' button, and your copy will be registered!
Note that you can skip the first few steps, and directly pay from the order page on the website. When you recieve the confirmation email, clicking on the link in the mail will automatically launch the Registration Wizard, with the code fill-in for you.
Note: We have been informed that some web-mail services render this link as unclickable. If you are not able to click on the link, you can view the same mail on our website by following instructions in the mail.
In case you still face any problems with registering, please mail to us at [email protected].

How do I add tracks to the library? |
When you install AudioManage, it performs a quick scan and tries to determine where your MP3, WMA, OGG and other music files are. It does this by checking common locations/registry entries for most recently used media files. However, this may not be able to detect your entire library, in which case, you can use the 'Full Scan' option (this option is automatically chosen if AudioManage is not able to find any files in the Quick Scan).
After AudioManage is installed, you can add tracks to the library in a number of ways:
1) You can drag and drop tracks and folders directly into the Audio Library. It doesn't matter what view is open at the time you drop the track - AudioManage will correctly place the dropped tracks in the proper views, even if the view is not open. In fact, you can even drop tracks, folders, and even complete drives, right into the Audio Library icon in 'My Computer'. Note that tracks dropped in the 'Playlists' view not only get indexed, they also get added to the open playlist.
2) You can right-click on the folder that you want to add to the Audio Library. From the context menu that appears, select 'Add to Audio Library', and that folder (and any subfolders that it may have) get indexed.
3) Click on the 'Add to Audio Library' button in the toolbar. This is the same as going into the Audio Library properties (right-click the Audio Library icon, and select 'Properties'), and from the Tools page, selecting 'Scan now' in the 'Rescan online media'. By default, this will only rescan for files which have been added to the folders which are already indexed, but you can add more folders to look for (you can use the 'Full Scan' option here to add all hard drives).
4) [Available from version 1.20a] Click on the 'Add to Audio Library' button in the toolbar. This will let you specify folders to add, or rescan, almost like option (3) above.

How do I configure AudioManage? |
The first time that AudioManage is run (Audio Library is opened), it launches a basic configuration wizard, which lets you select some folders for different purposes. This can be changed later, along with many other settings, so make AudioManage work the way you want it, by going into the Audio Library Properties.
These properties are available by right-clicking the Audio Library icon in 'My Computer', and selecting properties. The settings you can change are grouped in several tabs, and you can change them just like any other Windows properties.

How do I change the tags of my MP3, WMA, etc. files? |
AudioManage has a built-in tagger with full Unicode, UTF8, and ANSI support. However, unlike convetional taggers, AudioManage simplifies the tagging interface from you by providing a two-way tagging infrastructure. The virtual views that you see of your collection are built by determining the tags (and other criteria)... and when you change the view in any way, the tags are automatically modified. The simple act of renaming a folder or file will change the appropriate tags. You do not have to worry about which files to change (unless you want to change the tags specifically of one file, which also you can do), and you don't have to worry about the file format or character encoding to use: AudioManage takes care of that for you.
Read more about the tagger in the faq Where's the tagger? |

How do I use AudioManage with my iPod? |
Make sure that the 'disk mode' is enabled. Unlike most other music players, simply dragging and dropping music files from AudioManage to the iPod drive won't work. This is because iPods contain an internal database which has to be updated every time a file is copied.
However, it's very easy to use AudioManage along with other softwares, like iTunes, to do the same. Simply run iTunes, and plug-in your iPod. in the left-hand pane, you will see the tab for your iPod (among tabs for Library, Video, Playlists etc.). That's it: that's all you need the iTunes for... the rest will be done by AudioManage.
To copy any virtual file/folder from AudioManage to your iPod, simply drag and drop it from AudioManage right on top of the iPod tab. AudioManage informs iTunes of the files needed to be sent to the iPod, and iTunes copies the files and updates iPod's database.

How do I get CD covers for my albums? |
AudioManage can automatically get CD covers for the albums in your collection. You do not need to have all the songs of an album to get the cover: even a single song is enough. If the song is available in multiple albums, AudioManage will attempt to retrieve covers of as many albums with that song as possible.
AudioManage also lists the other tracks in each album it finds, and compares them to the tracks that you already have, highlighting the matches. The CD cover list is automatically arranged for you by most-probable-cover first.
To retrieve a CD cover, right-click on the album, and select 'Properties'. From the property sheet that pops up, click the 'More Info' button (towards the bottom of the sheet). That's it, no entering of data to do. This will also attempt to fix the name of the album and artist (for example, complete the album name, or fix spelling mistakes in the artist name)
If your album contains tracks you ripped from an AudioCD, you can also get much more information by clicking on the 'CD Album Info' button. Read more about it here.

How do I update track info for my ripped CDs? |
AudioManage is able to get CD track information (using freedb) for almost all known CDs. With this track information, it can update names of your tracks (even if they are named like 'Track 01' and so on. This works even when there are no album or artist tags. The more songs you have of a particular album, the better are the chances for a match.
To update track information, right-click on an album, select 'Properties' from the context menu. Click the button marked 'CD Album Info'. AudioManage will then attempt to retrieve a list of matching CDs, and when you select the correct CD from the list (if more that one is found), AudioManage will automatically rename the tracks correctly to the right ones.
You can also get the CD's cover (from Amazon.com) by clicking on the 'More Info' button. Typically, if not much is known about the album initially, it's better to first get the CD Album Info before using the 'More Info' option.

How do I remove duplicates? |
AudioManage includes two tools for duplicate removal. It shows you the duplicate tracks in the same folder view as other items. Basically, AudioManage displays a folder by the name of the track, and each copy of that track can be found in that folder. Deleting that folder deletes all copies of the track. You can listen to each file, and decide which ones to keep (of course, you can see the bitrate and duration of each song in the status bar all the time, which can help you to decide which song to keep).
AudioManage deals with duplicates in two forms: tracks with the same name, and tracks with the same song (may or may not have same name).
In the first method, which is available in the 'by Similarity' folder inside the 'Tools' folder, the Titles of the tracks are used to group the tracks together into individual folders. When you open the folder, you will see all the tracks with the same name, with a number appended to them. For example, if you have four tracks called 'My Life', then you might have entries like:
My Life {1}.mp3 My Life {1}.mp3 My Life {2}.mp3 My Life {3}.mp3
This means that even though these four tracks have the same title, AudioManage has determined that the first two are actually the same songs, while the other two are unique. This way you can safely remove real duplicates, and manage the rest. Note that the number are only shown for grouping: they are not really added to the files!
In the second method, available in the 'Duplicates' folder inside the 'Tools' menu, the audio data for each file is checked, and then the files are grouped together. Calculating the checksums of audio data for each file takes time, but this method will list all the real duplicate songs you have, irrespective of the names, or even tags that the files may have. The checksum of a file is created only once, so this process is only time consuming for the first time - the calculated checksum is stored by AudioManage for later use. This option only works for MP3 files.

I deleted some files manually from Windows Explorer, but AudioManage still shows them! |
AudioManage will only be able to update it's views if files are deleted using the AudioManage folder. However, you can quickly synchronize the views with the real filesystems.
To remove missing files that AudioManage is still showing as existing, simply go into AudioManage Properties (right-click on the Audio Library icon in 'My Computer'), and from the Tools tab, select 'Remove missing files'. That's it!
This option, used along with the option right under it (rescan folders), will cause AudioManage to do a full synchronization.
A full synchronization can also be done quickly by simply clicking on the 'Synchronize Audio Library' button in the toolbar, from all views in AudioManage. This feature is available from version 1.20a onwards.

How do I stop AudioManage from sending deleted files to the Recycle Bin? |
By default, as a safety measure, whenever a file is deleted from the audio library, it is sent to the Recycle Bin. Note that simply deleting an 'entry' in the view does not delete the actual file - it only removes information about the file from the library. A file is only deleted when the option 'Also delete the actual file' is checked - this option is available in all file deletion dialogs that are displayed.
To make AudioManage delete a file permanently, instead of sending to Recycle Bin, press the 'Shift' key while deleting the file/folder. This ensures that a deleted file will not be moved to the Recycle Bin. Additionally, the 'Also delete the actual file' checkbox will appear as checked by default, which saves another click for the user.
